Terms & Conditions
A few promises between guru, student, and family.
Last updated: January 1, 2026
1. Welcome to Nadanam
Nadanam ("the school", "we", "us", or "our") is a school of Bharatanatyam based in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India, operated by QuansStudio. These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern enrollment, attendance, performances, and your use of our website and services.
By enrolling a student, attending classes, or using our website, you agree to these Terms. If you are enrolling a child, you agree to these Terms on behalf of the child as their parent or legal guardian.
2. A Few Definitions
- Student — any individual enrolled in classes, workshops, or programmes at Nadanam.
- Parent / Guardian — the parent or legal guardian of a student under 18 years of age.
- Term — a defined period of weekly classes, typically three or four months long.
- Recital / Margazhi / Arangetram — performances, festivals, and the solo debut presented before guru, family, and audience.
- Guru — Smt. Deepali Ravi, founder and teacher of Nadanam, and any senior teacher she designates.
3. Eligibility & Admission
Nadanam welcomes students aged five and above. Admission is offered after a brief introductory meeting with the guru. There is no audition for foundational levels; advanced levels (Madhyama, Arangetram preparation) require an assessment of prior training.
For students under 18, a parent or legal guardian must complete enrollment, provide consent, and serve as the primary point of contact.
4. Enrollment & the Class Term
Classes are organised in terms. Each term has a fixed schedule, communicated at the start. Enrollment is per term — students continuing into the next term must confirm in writing (email or message) before the term begins. Class slots are limited; preference is given to continuing students.
A student who misses three or more consecutive classes without intimation may be removed from the active roll, with their spot offered to a student on the waitlist.
5. Fees & Payment
Term fees are communicated at the time of enrollment and are payable in advance of the term. Fees are quoted in Indian Rupees (INR) and inclusive of any applicable taxes unless stated otherwise. Payments may be made by UPI, bank transfer, or any other mode we make available from time to time.
Receipts are issued on request. Late payment may, at our discretion, attract a reasonable late fee or result in suspension of classes until dues are cleared.
6. Withdrawal, Refunds & Pauses
Should you wish to discontinue mid-term, please intimate us in writing. Refunds are at our discretion and generally calculated on a pro-rata basis, less an administrative deduction, for the unused portion of the term. No refunds are issued for missed classes within an active term except in cases of medical or family emergency, considered case by case.
A student may request a brief pause (up to one term) for valid reasons; class slots cannot be guaranteed on return and are subject to availability.
7. Code of Conduct in the Classroom
Bharatanatyam is taught here in the spirit of the gurukul tradition — with respect for the form, the guru, and the floor. Students are expected to:
- Arrive on time, in appropriate practice attire (sari for senior students, salwar/dhoti or kurta-pyjama for younger students; comfortable, modest clothing that allows movement).
- Begin each class with namaskaram — to the earth, the guru, and the form.
- Refrain from using mobile phones during class except in genuine emergencies.
- Treat fellow students, the teacher, and the practice space with care and respect.
- Not record audio or video of classes without prior permission.
Persistent disregard of the code of conduct may result in withdrawal of admission. The guru's decision in such matters is final.
8. Recitals, Performances & Arangetram
Participation in recitals, festivals, and the annual Margazhi season is by invitation, based on readiness and attendance. Mandatory rehearsals, costume fittings, and venue calls form part of the preparation. A student selected to perform agrees to attend all required rehearsals.
The arangetram — the student's solo debut — is undertaken only when the guru considers the student ready. Costs of venue, musicians, and production are borne by the student's family unless otherwise agreed in writing. The school provides choreographic guidance, training, and artistic direction.
9. Photography, Video & Likeness
The school may, from time to time, photograph or video classes, rehearsals, and performances for archival, educational, and promotional purposes — including our website, brochures, and social media. By enrolling, you grant Nadanam permission to use such images and recordings, in which the student may appear, without further compensation.
If you do not wish your or your child's likeness to be used publicly, please intimate us in writing at the time of enrollment. We will respect this request to the extent reasonably possible.
10. Intellectual Property
Choreography, teaching methods, syllabus notes, recordings, and curricular materials produced by Nadanam are the intellectual property of the school and the guru. They may not be copied, taught elsewhere, recorded for redistribution, or used to start a competing programme without prior written consent.
The traditional repertoire and ancient compositions of Bharatanatyam are, of course, the heritage of all who learn the form — these belong to no one, and to everyone.
11. Health, Safety & Liability
Bharatanatyam involves rigorous physical movement. Parents and adult students must inform the school in writing of any pre-existing medical conditions, injuries, or limitations relevant to physical practice. The school will take reasonable care in classes and rehearsals. However, Nadanam is not liable for injury, illness, or loss arising during class, rehearsal, or performance, except where such loss is caused by our gross negligence or wilful misconduct.
Personal belongings remain the responsibility of the student. The school is not responsible for items lost or damaged on the premises.
12. Termination of Enrollment
The school may withdraw a student's admission for material breach of these Terms, persistent absence, non-payment of fees, or conduct unbecoming the spirit of the gurukul. Where reasonably possible, a written warning will precede withdrawal. Refunds following withdrawal are calculated as in clause 6.
13. Website Use
The Nadanam website is offered for your information and convenience. You agree not to attempt unauthorised access, transmit malicious code, scrape content for commercial use, or otherwise misuse the site. Content, design, photographs, and text on the site are the property of Nadanam and may not be reproduced without permission.
14. Governing Law & Disputes
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India. Any dispute arising shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
Before any legal proceeding, the parties agree to attempt good-faith resolution through conversation with the guru and, if needed, the school's grievance contact, for a period of thirty (30) days.
15. Updates to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email and through a notice on the Nadanam website at least fifteen (15) days before they take effect. Continued enrollment or website use after such changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
16. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
